Fighting sticks. What are ideal fighting sticks? We've tried virtually every type of wood. For fighting, birch sticks remain our number one choice. There are few tree species that grow very straight without too much curvature and also have the desired thickness. You'll quickly find this with the silver birch.
Maximum length: 2 meters, 2 cm thin at the top, 3.5 cm thick at the bottom. Young birch (silver birch or white birch), straight trunk, approximately 7 years old. No branches, just the trunk.
Of course, such sticks don't last forever, but silver birch consistently came out on top. It has a good weight, not too heavy and not too light. It doesn't splinter dangerously like ash, or break like beech or oak. One might think that beech or oak would be fine for a while, but suddenly the pieces fly dangerously everywhere...
